Electric Racing and Combat at the AMAS Field

10 October 2011

Thanks to Royal and Ellen Stewart for hosting the season finale of AMAS racing and combat for 2011.

The hospitality and lunch was a wonderful treat and the weather was the best for flying that we have had.

The event was attended by Jeff, Trevor, Martin, Mark, Royal, Walt, Murray and Charles plus four of the spouses who also enjoyed an afternoon of fishing.

An E-race and E-combat was held at Royal’s field on a beautiful Tuesday evening and was very well attended.

Ten pilots flew and/or competed.

The pylon pole found Derek’s Park Zone P-51 or Derek found the pylon pole resulting in a storm of plastic parts. Derek says he has enough glue to put it all back together again. A Me109 flown by a ruthless pilot knocked the wing off Gordon’s Bird Dog during combat resulting in another fatal crash.

11 June 2011

Last night’s race was a resounding success with 7 pilots and 9 racing heats being flown.

We raced six smaller racers and 4 Electric Formula Ones.

The next time you see Royal, ask him how far you can bury a Pogo into soft earth using a full power dive from about 200 feet.

Contact me if you had planned to race on the regular scheduled race day of this Saturday afternoon. The weather is forecast as rain and cold so I would like to cancel for tomorrow.

Royal has offered to host other races at his field which is a beautiful flying site and there are no interruptions trying to accommodate other sport fliers.

Eracers and Ecombatters

The May 11th Electric race was canceled because of the wind.
The weather was much improved for the May18th Ecombat.
We had a great start to the 2011 season with six flyers being present.
We only flew three rounds of combat as there was the initial testing and debugging of equipment.
The mosquitoes won the day with only a few casualties and left me with itchy arms.
The wind came up after 4:00 and made positioning the aircraft more difficult.
We are trying a new way to track scores and keep points for the season.
Two classes of combat are flown, under 16 oz. and over 16 oz.

Column 1: (25 pts.) survives combat zone for full five minutes
Column 2: (25 pts.) complete ribbon is intact
Column 3: (25 pts per touch on ribbon and 50 pts. per cut on ribbon)

Table

Let me know if there should be corrections to the scoring.

E-racing is scheduled every second Saturday  of the month at afternoon from 2 to 4:30 PM. E-combat is scheduled every fourth Saturday at the same time. Both events will start in May and continue until the end of October.
E-combat scheduled on May 28 will be moved to May 21, to accommodate the work party.

These events accommodate a wide variety of electric airplanes. E-racing is a handicapped one. Slower airplanes start sooner.  On top of having fun, you can improve your flying skills as well.

All members are welcome to join. Contact Charles Swaney for more information.
